It’s been said that artistic talent skips a generation, but not in the Truemner family tree! On Thursday, May 2nd The City Opera House will open an exhibit that features large-scale paintings from an exceptionally talented father and daughter duo – Traverse City native Mitchell Truemner and Midland resident Katie Truemner Bruessow. This will be part II of their Generations Exhibition - Father Daughter Works of Art series.

Daughter Katie Bruessow attended Kendall College of Art and Design, earning her BFA in Illustration with a focus on Furniture Design. After graduation, Katie worked in the mass production market for both home furnishings and painting, selling her original work to companies like Kirklands and Perigold. In her work as a fine artist, painting has been her passion. Her creative process features a loose style that is often inspired by nature.

Father Mitchell Truemner concentrated in art at Delta College in the late 1970’s. He has been the featured artist in Traverse City’s Michigan Artist Gallery and previously at the City Opera House. Truemner’s abstract paintings evoke a sense of spirituality. He is greatly influenced by the wooded areas of northern Michigan as well as painters Joan Mitchell and Brian Rutenburg.

While Katie and Mitchell have 2 different studios and their styles are distinctively different, it is exciting to see the relationship in their work. This part II series will exhibit paintings inspired by Michigan's landscapes.

The exhibit opens with a reception on Thursday, May 2nd at 5:30-7:30pm at The City Opera House. It will be displayed through June 29th, 2024.
