Take It From The Top

Take It From The Top is a series of interactive workshops taught by working Broadway professionals who have a passion for providing training and perspective for students interested in pursuing a professional career in musical theatre as well as those just looking to have fun with performing arts.

Page 2 Stage

Michigan high school students are invited to write and submit one-act scripts to a juried competition. Six finalists are assigned a theatre professional who mentors the student playwright with revising their play. Each finalist receives a cash award and sees their play come to life, directed and performed by Traverse City area thespians.

Full Tilt Comedy Intensive

The intensive will include two classes of 8-15 students each: one for rising (going into) 6th–8th graders and one for rising 9th–12th graders. Separately and simultaneously, the cohorts will build improv skills under the instruction of Full Tilt Comedy core company members. We will utilize specific exercises and proven improv games in each class to guide the development of specific skills and prepare students for a full on-stage improv performance.

Hook & Eye Theater Summer Intensive

City Opera House is thrilled to announce a unique summer student intensive in devised theater led by guest artists Hook & Eye Theater from Brooklyn, NY. Hook & Eye is an award-winning, innovative, ensemble-based company known for creating original performances from the ground up, using collaboration, movement, text, sound, and imagination rather than a traditional script. The intensive will include two classes of 10 students each: one for rising 5th–8th graders and one for rising 9th–12th graders. Both groups' work will culminate in a public showing for family and friends.

Seats for Kids

Help children attend shows at City Opera House. Seats for Kids makes it possible for economically disadvantaged children and their parent or guardian to attend shows and concerts at City Opera House free of charge.  Area youth and family service agencies help identify young people who may benefit from the program. Seats for Kids is funded by gifts from people in the community.
